A Toast To Literacy:
in recognition of March Is Reading Month

Allegan County Imagination Library
You are invited to an evening of food, spirts, SILENT AUCTION and music at the Lynx Golf Course Club House, Thursday, March 10 from 6-8:30 p.m.
The cost is $40 per person with all proceeds going to the Imagination Library.
Your attendance will assure more pre-school children will receive the books designed to help improve literacy in Allegan County.

We are fast approaching the end of our campaign and we have managed to reach 97% of our $875,000 goal in this economy. We have also exceeded what was raised last year and we think that's just awesome!
Applications from agencies requesting funding are in and, next month, we will begin our allocations process whereby our board members and volunteers from our community will visit those agencies for evaluation and decide their funding level.
I want to remind everyone that they can "Check Off for United Way" on their state tax return. The Michigan Association of United Ways has secured a check off box on your state return so you can donate either all or part of your return to the United Way fund. The donations go to the Michigan Association and then they distribute the funds by zip code. Last year we received $1,300 and it is to be used for emergency needs. We distributed the money to our five food banks.
Our Super Saturday Tax Assistance Clinics are well underway with three of them completed and four more to go. We provided $142,000 in returns to our residents last year and we think we'll surpass that amount this year.
Our Imagination Library program continues to thrive with over 1,600 children age 0 - 5 receiving free books in the mail each month.
And, don't forget to dial 2-1-1 when you're in need of resources or information - another funded service of your Allegan County United Way.

ACUW in collaboration with other agencies is working to provide access to quality health care for Allegan County's uninsured / underinsured residents.

This year the ACUW is encouraging Michigan residents to "check off" for the United Way Fund on Michigan tax returns. Tax form 4642 will allow people to donate all or part of their 2010 Michigan tax return to the United Way Fund, a fund created to help Michigan's needy families with their most basic needs. The fund helps provide food, clothing and shelter for Michigan's low to moderate income families.
