Stuff the Bus

Donate backpacks and school supplies for kids at Fifth Third Bank locations in Ottawa County or at Loutit Library in Grand Haven from JULY 27 - AUGUST 7. Thank you!

Greater Ottawa County United Way is hosting its third annual Stuff the Bus School Supply Drive from Monday, July 27 – Friday, August 7. Community members are invited to donate school supplies and backpacks for kids at any Fifth Third Bank location in Ottawa County or at Loutit Library in Grand Haven.

 

Supplies needed include: backpacks, boxes of 24 count crayons, pocket folders (plain & w/fasteners), glue sticks, regular pencils, large erasers, small erasers (that fit on pencils), pack of 10 colored pencils, three ring binders, spiral notebooks (wide ruled paper & college ruled paper), pencil boxes, pencil pouches (for 3 ring binders), pencil sharpeners, scissors, highlighters, packages of paper (wide ruled & college ruled), toothpaste (sample size) and toothbrushes.

 

During the first week in September, Stuff the Bus backpacks full of school supplies will be distributed to local kids in need. Students can pick up a backpack in Grand Haven on Wednesday, September 2 from 4:30pm-5:30pm at The Salvation Army located at 310 N. Despelder St. For the Grand Haven pick-up, students need to be pre-registered to receive a backpack. Pre-registration takes place at The Grand Haven Salvation Army between July 27 and August 14 during office hours. Please bring ID (birth certificate or social security card).

 

Students can also pick up a backpack in Holland on Thursday, September 3 from 4:00pm-6:00pm at The Salvation Army located at 104 Clover St. Please make an appointment at The Salvation Army from July 29 - August 7. Please bring a photo ID, social security card, social security numbers for all household members, and proof of income. Call the Salvation Army at (616) 392-4461 to set up your appointment.

 

Last fall, the community donated more than $25,000 worth of school supplies during the Stuff the Bus drive. United Way's Director of Volunteerism Shannon Morton said, “We are so grateful for the community’s generosity. These backpacks filled with school supplies will help hundreds of local children start their school year with the tools they need to succeed.”

 

Stuff the Bus is a collaboration of Greater Ottawa County United Way, The Salvation Army and Grand Haven Area Public Schools. Event sponsors are Fifth Third Bank, Huntington Bank, and Two Men and a Truck.

 

Companies hosting employee-only Stuff the Bus drives include: Davenport University, Fifth Third Bank, Flextronics, Four Pointes, Grand Haven Public Schools Educational Service Center, Grand Haven Custom Molding, ITW Drawform, Shape Corporation, Tennant Company and Woodward.
